Styrene Monomer Thinner is a specialized reactive solvent used to adjust the viscosity and workability of polyester-based materials.
Unlike standard cleaning solvents (like Acetone), Styrene is a reactive diluent. This means it does not simply evaporate; it becomes part of the chemical structure of the resin during the cross-linking process. It is the professional choice for thinning gelcoats for spray applications or making heavy laminating resins more fluid for intricate molds, ensuring the final composite maintains its intended mechanical strength.

🔹 Application Instructions
Add the Styrene to the resin or gelcoat before adding the catalyst (MEKP).
Recommended Dosage: Generally 3% to 5% by weight.
Mix thoroughly to ensure a completely homogeneous liquid.
Once the desired fluidity is reached, proceed with catalyzation as per the resin’s instructions.
👉 Pro Tip: Avoid over-diluting. Adding more than 10% Styrene can increase the shrinkage of the resin and potentially cause yellowing or surface tackiness over time.
