Cab-O-Sil Colloidal Silica M-5 is a high-purity, fumed silica used as a universal thickening and thixotropic agent for liquid resins.
When added to epoxy, polyester, or vinylester resins, it transforms their consistency from a liquid to a gel or a thick paste (like peanut butter). This allows the resin to be applied to vertical or overhead surfaces without sagging or dripping. It is the fundamental ingredient for creating custom structural adhesives, high-strength fillers, and fillets in boat building and composite repairs.

🔹 Mixing Instructions
Mix your resin and hardener/catalyst thoroughly first.
Add Cab-O-Sil gradually while stirring slowly to avoid creating a dust cloud.
Dosage: – Slight Thickening: 0.5% – 1% by weight.
Non-Sag Gel: 2% – 3% by weight.
Structural Paste/Fillet: Up to 5% or more until the desired consistency is reached.
👉 Pro Tip: For a smoother, easier-to-sand finish, combine Cab-O-Sil with Glass Bubbles (Microballoons). The Cab-O-Sil provides the “anti-sag” property, while the bubbles provide bulk and ease of sanding.
