Norester R999 Styrene-Free Resin
High-performance styrene-free polyester resin. Engineered to coat and laminate polystyrene without melting or deforming the foam core. Ideal for structural reinforcements, models, and nautical sandwich panels.
Norester R999 is a professional-grade solution for projects involving Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) or Extruded Polystyrene (XPS). Standard resins contain solvents that dissolve these foams on contact; R999 is formulated without styrene, allowing you to build a rigid, protective fiberglass skin directly onto the foam safely and effectively.
✔ Foam-Safe Formula Guaranteed not to melt, shrink, or damage polystyrene, preserving the exact geometry of your core or model.
✔ Superior Fiber Wetting Low viscosity compared to other styrene-free alternatives, ensuring excellent penetration into glass fiber mats and fabrics.
✔ Excellent Structural Adhesion Creates a powerful bond with the porous surface of the foam, resulting in a lightweight yet incredibly stiff composite structure.
✔ Tough Protective Shell Once cured, it provides a hard surface that is resistant to impacts and ready for further finishing or traditional resin layers.
🎨 Fields of Application Ideal for:
Nautical Construction: Creating or repairing buoyancy tanks, rudders, and sandwich panels with foam cores.
Prototyping & Design: Coating CNC-milled polystyrene plugs for mold making.
Surf & Paddle Boards: Laminating EPS cores for high-performance watercraft.
Set Design & Sculpture: Hardening large-scale foam structures for cinema and events.
✔ Reduced odor: perfect for use in smaller workshops or indoor environments.
✔ Rapid polymerization: allows for quick handling and processing of parts.
✔ High mechanical resistance: provides a durable exterior even in thin layers.
✔ Versatile compatibility: can be used with chopped strand mats (CSM) or woven fabrics.
📝 Instructions for Use Preparation
Ensure the polystyrene surface is clean, dry, and free from loose particles or dust. Mixing
Add the recommended percentage of MEKP catalyst (typically 1.5% – 2% by weight).
Mix thoroughly, ensuring the catalyst is fully incorporated into the resin. Application
Apply by brush or roller. When laminating, apply a thin coat to the foam first, lay the glass fiber, and then saturate the fabric.
For very thin or sensitive foams, testing a small area is always recommended.
✅ Final Result A professional, structural-grade coating that protects and reinforces polystyrene, turning fragile foam into a high-strength composite component.
